Frog Island Retreat

(14)

This island retreat is a 2600sf, three-and-a-half story tower built with a roof top patio for full views up the Bruce Peninsula, to the sunsets over Lake Huron, and back toward the long reach of a shallow Sandy Bay where aerial enthusiasts congregate at one of North America’s top kite surfing locations. The building has large folding doors opening up 30 feet of living room space to the outdoor patio facing the tranquil waters of an island archipelago on Lake Huron. An expansive covered porch, outdoor shower, and a sprawling deck add connectivity to the lake, where the homeowners enjoy an active lifestyle on the water with kayaking, canoeing and kite boarding. The building incorporates a high-performance building envelope, expanded/contracted summer winter occupation of parts of the building and local materials from the vicinity of the project.
