Ames House Collingwood

John McMinn Building Studio with Dereck Revington (schematic design phase)

The project involved the reorganization and upgrading of a large Victorian house in the Collingwood Ontario, re-orienting the interior toward south facing terraces, a garden and swimming pool. The cardinal axes north to south and west to east reframe the spatial sequences of the building, from urban to natural conditions, and from the fire of the hearth to waters of a fountain leading to a creek that bounds the edge of the site. A new glazed pavilion along the south face of the building provides enhanced natural lighting and ventilation, extending the existing spatial sequence of the house from formal rooms toward the street through to a panoramic south and east view of the rear garden and adjoining ravine and creek.
